Lanoi and Jon | Kaua’i Adventure Elopement

Peter and I sat up at the bar and ordered another mai tai. It was sunset at our favourite happy hour spot on the south side (The Honu Bar) and Peter was watching some kind of sports game (it was so long ago I can’t exactly remember but it must have been football…or basketball…or maybe the one where they get the home runs. 😂😜

All of a sudden a friendly voice shyly asked from behind us, “Hi!! Are you guys wedding photographers by any chance?” I turned around to see Lanoi standing behind us, with the warmest, excited smile. I laughed, said yes, asked her how on earth she knew that and thanked her for coming up to say hi! She explained that she had been following us on Instagram since we photographed her friends Noy and Alan years ago (so cool! click here to check out their north shore Elopement from 2017!). How cool is that little app that it can connect people like that!!

Lanoi and I became fast friends when she pulled up a chair and ordered herself another mai tai. We laughed, talked Elopement dreams for her and her fiancé, and ordered quite possibly two too many mai tais until Peter thankfully drove us both home with the most epic wedding plan on the books.

A few months later we met them in their backyard overlooking the ocean where they said their I do’s in front of their immediate family. Lanoi is such a fun energy to be around and there was no shortage of laughs. She and Jon are the kind of people you immediately feel like great friends with even though we’d only met them a few times. The evening was a perfect mix of causal and romantic, and we snuck away for sunset as Jon twirled Lanoi along their rock wall and the sky lit up orange and pink as the winter sunsets often do. It couldn’t have been more perfect.

A few weeks later when the chaos of the family wedding settled down we decided to go on an adventure on the most beautiful day. We hiked 7 miles out on the ridge to perfectly clear skies and whales breaching below us while these two climbed around ridges like billy goats. Thankfully the whole team came along for the adventure so we had Peter, Micah and myself and no doubt the photos we got from this day were absolutely unreal. So grateful for clients who turn into friends and for opportunities to explore such a special place like this one. Enjoy the photographs below, and congrats again to Jon and Lanoi!
